'Masters of the Universe' Updates: Sony Pictures announced new director; McG to copy 2002 cartoon version of He-Man?

By

For many years, fans have been eagerly waiting for updates about Masters of the Universe. Now, Sony Pictures announced that McG, best known for directing Charlie's Angels movies as well as producer of Mysteries of Laura and Nikita, will be the one who will be helming the live-action film based on Mattel toy line, Masters of the Universe. There are also rumors circulating on the web that McG will approach Masters of the Universe just like He-Man's 2002 cartoon version.

McG clearly has some background in directing action-packed scripts and according to the Mary Sue, he might have an interesting take on the story of the Masters of the Universe. McG is currently overseeing a rewrite script of the Masters of the Universe, which was originally written by Mike Finch and Alex Litvak, as reported by Variety. Even if the script would succeed, some are still skeptical about the film's overall success.

There were many modifications and alterations that were applied to the writing and most of the fans think that bringing Masters of the Universe on the big screen means disaster. However, some say that the 2002 version of He-Man, which is darker, grittier, and smarter could be a good starting point for McG and the team. Many fans are worried that it may end up just like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who brought nothing to their imaginations but disappointment.

According to Deadline, McG's Masters of the Universe would be loyal to its origin. The reboot will revolve around He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior who becomes the last hope for a fantastical world called Eternia that has been scourged by the sinister Skeletor.

Aside from Sony Pictures, the latest Masters of the Universe is being produced by Escape Artists' Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Todd Black. Though the Masters of the Universe have gone through many studios, directors, and writers, this year's development is the most progressive by far. Many people have grown weary waiting for the release of the Masters of the Universe, but for real fans, the latest news about He-Man and McG is worth the wait.
