Famous toy maker company, Hasbro, is sued by typeface company, Font Brothers, for illegally using their font on marketing "My Little Pony" brand. The font that is allegedly been used by Hasbro in their "My Little Pony" products is "Generation B" which is created by Harold Lohner.
Hasbro is alleged to have refused in paying the copyright license while still continuing to use the font in all its "My Little Pony" products. It is particularly used in all "My Little Pony" toys and cartoon videos. The lawsuit against the toy maker company is filed in a New York federal court and in it states that Hasbro created unauthorized copies of the font in all third party vendors because it is now being used in a variety of products all over the world.
The complainant, Font Brothers, a Minnesota- based font maker company, is suing the toy maker of a damage fee of $150,000 per violation and is reported to have contacted Hasbro regarding the matter but no action has been done yet. The company offers their fonts for sale but under a distributors license agreement and on their website, there are fonts with limited usage and require upgrades for license. On Font Brothers lawsuit filed against Hasbro, the company stated that the "Generation B" font is used in multiple products.
"Generation B" is a comical and eccentric kind of font which is inspired by "The Parent Trap", a 1961's Walt Disney movie. In the official website of "My Little Pony", the font is still being used.
"My Little Pony" is famous among little girls and adult alike. With its fame worldwide and with the millions of products that markets "My Little Pony", Font Brothers might cost Hasbro millions because of its copyright infringement case.
