The new Apple Watch 2 will not debut in early March. Rumor has it that it will launch this September, alongside the next-gen IPhone.
Express UK reports that the rumored September announcement means Apple will be able to capitalise on the holiday rush to boost sales of the new iterations of its smartwatch and IPhone.
Information about the new smartwatch remains scant but Express UK expects it to be a full redesign of the current hardware.
A FaceTime camera for video calls is also rumored to be included in the Apple Watch 2.
According to 9TO5MAC, while waiting for the fall release of the Apple Watch 2, the Cupertino-based company is in discussion with companies like Hermes to design new color bands for the watch. Apple also discussed partnerships with accessory makers like Incase, but it is unclear if any product is ready by March.
This March we will also see the WatchOS 2.2 update, which went into developer beta stage earlier this month. Developer betas have revealed that the new software can sync multiple Apple Watches on a single IPhone, in addition to new functions built into the Maps app.
With the new watch bands, software upgrades, and the rumored IPhone 5se in the works, Apple is tentatively planning a small media event in March.
9TO5MAC's sources say that Apple is currently planning an event-based introduction on the 14th of March, but is heavily reliant on other products becoming ready for the spring season.
With all these upgrades coming, Forbes tempers the excitement this coming Fall by saying that smartwatches are still a nascent market and consumer enthusiasm has been relatively tepid. In fact, Apple is the only player in the smartwatch market to succeed.
Going by this analogy, even with Apple's success over its rivals, there has been no great leaps forward that revolutionized the category and any great leap forward for the Apple Watch is not coming soon.
