Obama Keen on Pushing Agenda as Texas Lawsuits Continue

By

President Barack Obama has been getting multiple legal hits from the republican states since taking office in January 2009. According to records, President Obama has been sued against his administration 39 times.

Just last week, the United States Supreme Court revealed that it is working on one of the more important cases against Obama, which is the legality of the President's unilateral 2014 action that prevents more than 4 million immigrants to be deported out of the country. This goes to show how much pressure Obama is facing while holding his office

Politicians from Texas, the nation's strongest republican state, have been having field days on suing Obama. For them, filing a case against the administration is something to be proud of. In Texas, the attorney general's annual budget is $600 million, five times higher than other republican states. This makes filing lawsuits against the president easy and affordable.

Some politicians sue the administration more than others. Greg Abbott, current governor of Texas, has sued the administration for 31 times when he was holding office as the state's attorney general. Ken Paxton, who succeeded Abbott in 2015, has filed eight lawsuits

"I am enjoying being governor of Texas but there is one thing that I miss. It is that I no longer get to wake up and go to the office and sue the federal government," said Abbott during a conservative forum in Austin, as reported by Reuters.com.

According to Yahoo News, Texas churns out $1.6 trillion in economic strength, which makes the money spent on lawsuits against the federal government shy at $5.1 million (as of December 2014). Aside from having no problems with budget, the attorney general's Office of the Solicitor General has 20 skilled lawyers who specialize in such lawsuits filed.

"We don't just represent Texas. You can call it 'Red State America' or 'Tea Party America,' but Texas is a voice for a lot of those people nationally," stated Chip Roy, an official in the attorney general's office, in a post by Yahoo.

"It is part of who we are, and that actually influences significantly our willingness, and our drive, to push back on Washington when we believe they are overstepping their constitutional authority," added Roy in the same report.
