A woman is set to plead guilty to her alleged role in sex trafficking of minors at Houston Brothels. The said woman is one of the owner on a number of brothels around the area in Houston that facilitated commercial prostitution.
Maria E. Gonzales Munoz also known as "Merci", 45 years old and a Honduran national is the co-owner of the several Houston brothels such as Cocodrillos, according to United States Department of Justice website. The said brothels also appears as a normal bar as their front.
On the undercover operation carried out by the police authorities, a young girl was offered as prostitute at Cocodrillos by Munoz. The young girl was reported to be a minor and had come to the United States without immigration permit. Munoz allegedly offered her work as well as a place to stay. The Honduran woman also told the minor informant that she could help her to look like more of an adult using a make-up. Munoz also told her that she will help to obtain a fraudulent identification card.
Based on the court document filed against Munoz, the woman has been convicted for her role on conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, back in March 2012 to February 2013. Chron reported, the girls were used as prostitutes for money. Munoz was also aware that the girls are underage.
A Mexican female minor, 15, allegedly working as prostitute for Gonzalez was paid $15 per sex with 30 customers in two days. Because of her young age, other working prostitutes also notice her young physical appearance and were afraid that the police authorities would draw their attention to her.
Maria Gonzalez Munoz is still in police custody awaiting the verdict scheduled on the 7th of April 2016 before the US District Judge, Nancy Atlas. The one prosecuting the case will be Assistant United States Attorney Ruben R. Perez.
