American actress and singer, Jamie- Lynn Sigler talks about being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis for the first time in the public. It was revealed that the actress has the said disease for a long time and had been fighting it until now.
According to Daily Mail, the 34 year old Soprano star was diagnosed with the multiple sclerosis when she was 19. A mother of a two year old son, the actress said she was not prepared emotionally in revealing about her disease to the public. Her revelation comes, days after her nuptial with Cutter Dykstra, a 26 year old baseball player. The two got married in Palm Springs, California, Saturday.
Sigler also said that she decided to let her fans know her struggles with the disease now. She told the People magazine, "I'm at a point in my life with my son, with my new marriage, it's a new me. I don't want to hold a secret where it feels like I have something to be ashamed of or have something to hide," Q13 Fox quoted.
The actress is known on her role as Meadow in HBO TV series, "The Sopranos" where she played as the daughter of a mob boss. Her latest appearance is in the television series, Entourage, as herself.
According to Independent, Multiple sclerosis is autoimmune disease which affects brain nerves as well spinal cord. It has numerous symptoms including fatigue, double vision of the eyes or blurriness, muscle spasm and problems in balancing. It has no known cure however, sufferers can have a number of treatment to help them.
Sigler also explained how the disease changed her life. She said, "I can't walk for a long period of time without resting. I cannot run. No superhero roles for me. Stairs? I can do them but they're not the easiest. When I walk, I have to think about every single step, which is annoying and frustrating."
Now, the Soprano star is on medication in order to manage her symptoms. She has never needed a wheelchair as well as wants everyone know that she is living a normal life.
