The popular film directing brother and sister tandem of Lana and Andy Wachowski is reportedly being sued after reportedly stealing ideas used in their Matrix trilogy, according to uk.movies.yahoo.com. Thomas Althouse claims that ideas were borrowed in their popular sequels from a script he sent to Warner Brothers in 1993 called "The Immortals." Althouse claims the popular Matrix sequels borrowed key elements from his script, such as the plugs in the back of character's necks and robot like "agents."
The lawsuit has been filed against the Wachowskis, and producer Joel Silverman for copyright infringement. Neither Wachowski sibling has responded to the plagiarism claims.
Althouse alleges he did not realize the similarities between the work of the Wachowskis and his own script until he checked out the Keanu Reeves films in 2010; seven years after the two sequels were released. Warner Bros. heads and producer Joel Silver have also been named as defendants in the copyright infringement battle, alongside Andy and Lana Wachowski. In addition to his $300 million demand, Althouse is requesting a share of the $1.63 billion the trilogy grossed at the global box office.
''The first movie is sort of classical in its approach, the second movie is deconstructionist and an assault on all the things you thought to be true in the first movie... and the third movie is the most ambiguous, because it asks you to actually participate in the construction of meaning,'' Lana Wachowski once explained about her films.
The Wachowskis also directed "V for Vendetta," "Cloud Atlas," "Bound," and other popular films in the last two decades.
