Police arrested and charged a 28-year-old Farmington man for the first-degree murder of his girlfriend on Tuesday, according to local reports.
Saturday night, William Dhondt reported his girlfriend, Kaitlin Hehir, missing. When police went to the couple's home on 23800 block of Colchester, they found what was termed as an act of total brutality.
Authorities found a plastic bag stained with blood. After interrogation, Dhont confessed to murdering and dismembering his 29-year-old girlfriend after a domestic dispute.
"The defendant described hitting Kaitlin in face with a glass cup causing her to hit her head on a dresser and fall to the ground," Farmington Public Safety Detective Andrew Morche told reporters. "He got on the top of her and repeatedly hit his girlfriend in the face causing her to bleed form the nose and mouth. The defendant then used his hands to strangle Kaitlin to death as she struggled and fought for her life."
Dhondt dragged her body to the basement and where he mutilated Hehir and hid the dismembered parts in various containers and areas in the home, according to detectives.
Judge James Wittenberg, a district court judge, entered a not-guilty plea on Dhondt's behalf during his video arraignment and allowed for a court-appointed attorney. He has been jailed without bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for March.
In Michigan, first-degree murder holds a compulsory life imprisonment without parole.
