A 51-year-old man was left injured after he was shot in an attempted robbery outside his apartment Sunday, police officials said.
Ricardo Hernandez, the victim, said the robbers hit him with a beer bottle on the side of his head and he was shot by one of the three suspected robbers after he refused to give them money.
"When I saw he has a gun, I ran," Hernandez said. He was then attacked by the suspected robbers. Hernandez's wife came from the apartment after hearing his screams and scared them away.
"My mom came in crying and told me what happened," said Richard, Hernandez's son. "I went outside and saw my dad bleeding,"
Richard said his father's gun shot survival as a "miracle."
"Most people who get shot in the head - they don't make it; it's a miracle to me," he said.
The incident happened around 8:40 a.m. Ricardo was treated at the Palomar Medical Center, reported Fox5 San Diego.
NBC San Diego reported that Sheriff's Lt. Scott Amos said the suspected robbers fled from the scene in a black car. Lt. Amos described the group of Hispanic background. Search for the suspected robbers is on, officials said.
