Police Authorities of Florida are searching for the Yorkshire terrier which was reported stolen by a man from a pet store on 7190 Ulmerton Road. The man had traded the $1,600 Yorkshire terrier dog for crack cocaine, the Largo Police reported.
Wayne Junior Barfield, 38, was caught on the security camera at the pet store, All about Puppies on 7190 Ulmerton Road stealing the dog by stacking the animal down his shirt and left the store, according to ABC News. Largo police said, they got a tip to finally captured Barfield on Friday and charge him with grand theft.
Police reported, Barfield drove to 4th Street and 75th Avenue North in St. Petersburg, where it is also the area he allegedly traded the said dog for the crack cocaine drugs as well as money, TBO cited. The 38 year old dog thief was sent to jail on Friday after he admitted he disposed the dog, however, the Barfield won't reveal whom he traded it. Detectives identified him on Jan. 14, according to Largo police.
The authorities also said, Barfield exchanged the dog for drugs and cash in St. Petersburg. It was also not known where the dog is. The Yorkshire terrier has a microchip which enables to inform veterinarians regarding the dog's status, according to 13 WMAZ.
Barfield is now imprisoned in the Pinellas County jail and set with more than $5,000 bail. Aside from the charges of grand theft, he was also charge for no valid driver's license, and resisting an officer without violence.
The Yorkshire terrier is already sold to a customer. The pet store, All About Puppies will give a reward of $1000 for those who will return the dog.
