Five-year-old ‘Accidentally’ Shot at His Home; Father Takes Responsibilty

By

A 5-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the shoulder Friday at his Westchester Avenue home, reported DNAInfo.

According to the reports, father of the boy claimed that the shooting was the result of a gunpoint robbery at a check cashing site, but later took the responsibility for injuring the child.

However, sources reveal that he might be trying to protect his 11-year-old son, who is believed to have been playing with the gun and shot his younger brother accidentally. DNAInfo further reported that investigators were searching the house Friday looking for the weapon. It was not immediately clear whether it was licensed.

The Huffington Post reported that while on the way to the hospital, the father waved down the police. The injured child was rushed to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. His condition is serious but he's out of danger.

"That little boy is just, like, he's bubbly," a neighbor was quoted as saying, by CBS. "He's always happy. You can tell when a kid is happy when he's being parented right, you know?"

Neighbors described the injured boy's father as "good with his son." They said he often took the younger one to a park nearby and watched over him while he played, reported DNAInfo.

"He's real good with his son," said Shanee McCray, 30, a neighbor. "He spoils his son."
