The official title for eight installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, and aside from its setting in New York, it could also be set in Cuba. Franchise star, Vin Diesel confirmed that the next film will be called 'Fast 8' and unveiled its first poster on social media.
As reported by Deadline, Diesel has confirmed the title of the next film in the long running franchise by posting a photo of the first teaser on Instagram. The photo shows the landscape of New York with the title "Fast 8" and a tagline of "New Roads Ahead".
According to The Verge, Fast 8's tagline is appropriate for the eighth film in the franchise and first film for the last trilogy that will serve to close the entire franchise. Although it conveys of a new journey, it also gives a nod to the loss of one of its lead actors, Paul Walker, who played as Brian O'Conner.
Director F. Gary Gray was confirmed to take the director's chair for the next film while Jason Statham is expected to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw, as well as Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs, Michelle Rodriguez as Lettie Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, and Ludacris as Tej Parker.
Despite that it was previously revealed that the new flick will be set in New York, Variety reported that Universal is eyeing on making the sequel the first major picture to shoot in Cuba.
"Universal Pictures is currently in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the 'Fast & Furious' series in Cuba," a studio spokesperson said.
Plot and production details for Fast and Furious 8 which is now offcially called 'Fast 8' are to be revealed as it nears April 14, 2017 release date. The previous film in the franchise was a box office success with its $1.5 billion earnings worldwide. More of this story as the sequel proceed into production.
