Mexican actress, Kate del Castillo has been called for questioning by the Mexican police authorities regarding her involvement with jailed drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. The Mexican government official said on Monday, the actress set up an meeting for Sean Penn's interview with the drug lord.

According to ABC News, an official who was unauthorized to reveal any details about the case and wished to be unnamed said investigators have sent Kate Del Castillo a formal request to talk with them regarding the said meeting with Guzman. The official also clears that Del Castillo is not accused of any crime but instead considered as a witness.

Del Castillo arranged a meeting with Hollywood actor, Sean Penn and the "on-the-run" cartel leader in October. The Mexican actress and Guzman had contacted each other many times before she met Sean Penn in Northern Mexico, according to BBC News. On January 8, Guzman was arrested, after his escape from a high maximum security prison. Guzman was captured earlier this month in Los Mochis, Sinaloa state.

The day after Guzman was capture, Sean Penn's article about Guzman was released. Mexico's presidency spokesperson, Eduardo Sanchez said, they will work for an investigation if there's a crime committed while on the said arranged meeting. However, he spread the idea that someone with information about a wanted fugitive would not share it with authorities.

The Mexican actress received criticisms on social media. However, the Del Castillo responded on Twitter, "Not surprisingly, many have chosen to make up items they think will make good stories and that aren't truthful. I look forward to sharing my story with you," Chicago Tribune cited.

El Chapo, the most wanted man in Mexico, also plans to get Hollywood to produce a movie about his life. Kate de Castillo told El Chapo that Hollywood actor Sean Penn will help him about it. Mexican prosecutors also said the Mexican actress currently in the US, will be allowed to be questioned at the embassy in Los Angeles.
