‘Scream Queens’ Renewed for Season 2; Returning Cast Members, New Setting Revealed

By

Scream Queens is confirmed to return to the small screens. Fox has officially renewed the Ryan Murphy-produced series for a second season, the network has announced at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour on Friday.

Details about the upcoming second run were also discussed with reporters during the event. According to Entertainment Weekly, the horror-comedy will be shooting on a hospital setting for the new storylines.

However, viewers shouldn’t feel that season two will run ala American Horror Story: Asylum – which was another Murphy-produced show that aired on FX.

“I don’t think it’s anything like Asylum, which was set in a period,” network boss Gary Newman commented on the shows’ comparison.

“The medical is an incredibly rich area to tell stories in. Ryan has always loved the medical area.Nip/Tuck was a show he really enjoyed the creative on. It seemed like a great, broad area,” he continued.

As for casting, Deadline reported that some of the original cast members of Scream Queens have already confirmed their involvement in the new season. According to the publication, the returning cast members include: Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer and Billie Lourd.

Actress Emma Roberts, who portrayed Chanel Oberlin in season one, expressed her excitement for coming back next season.

“Surprise bitches...Bet you thought you'd seen the last of her...#Chanel #ScreamQueens #Season2,” the actress posted via Twitter on Saturday.

Other than Ryan Murphy, the series also hails from Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Alexis Martin Woodall. Its freshman run was a hit for the network as it averaged 7.2 million viewers each week.

The second season’s logline as well as the beginning of production is yet to be announced. In light of this development, the previously reported summer camp setting of Scream Queens season two will no longer be pursued.
