Trial for Jimmy Snuka's murder case delayed; Former wrestling star incompetent for proceedings due to dimentia

By

The defense attorney of Jimmy 'Superfly Snuka, a former professional wrestling star who was accused of killing his mistress thirty years ago postponed his trial. The trial was delayed after the court ruled that Snuka was not competent for the proceedings.

It was on May 10, 1983, Emergency 911 received a call from Snuka claiming that she found his mistress Nancy Argentino in their hotel room gasping for air while yellow fluid from her mouth and nose is oozing out. The next day after the incident, Nancy died and the autopsy revealed that she sustained injuries consistent to that of domestic abuse as reported by Dailymail. The wrestler was then charged with involuntary manslaughter and third-degree murder. Leigh Valley Live stated that Snuka has pleaded not guilty and claims that Argentinos death was an unfortunate accident. He was the only person of interest but no criminal case was filed against him, not until October of that same year.

According to Fryinds, Robert Kirwan II, Snuka's legal representative filed a motion for competency hearing at the Pennsylvania Lehigh County Court. Kirwan told Judge Kelly Banach that the 72-year-old wrestling star who is a resident of Camden County, New Jersey showed a steady decline in mental health and doesn't even understand the charges pressed against him or even knows that he was arrested. It was also reported that sometime in November during a court appearance, Snuka could not write or understand English anymore and was said to be suffering dementia.

An independent evaluation of Snuka's fitness was requested by Chief Deputy Attorney Charles Gallagher but Judge Banach still wants to look at the law if that request is really required. Gallagher stated that he will challenge the motion of the defense for competency hearing. He pointed out that the suspects mental status were evaluated and considered during the grand jury process many years ago.
