Larry Bird’s Son Arrested: 20-Year Old Faces Multiple Charges After Dispute with Ex-Girlfriend

By

NBA Hall of Famer Larry Bird's son, Connor, was arrested Sunday at Indiana University for trying to hit his ex-girlfriend with his car, as reported by the Indianapolis Star.

Police say that they have a witness to the incident, and Connor, 21, faces charges of battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon and marijuana possession, according to campus police.

Police also say that he and his girlfriend got into a nasty dispute beginning with him throwing a cellphone, and hitting her in the wrist, according to reports. The two then were then in Bird's car on campus when another argument began, forcing her to exit the car to walk home, which is when Bird allegedly tried to hit her with his car.

"This is a very private matter that we're going to try to resolve quickly," attorney John L. Tompkins told the paper. "We're thankful no one was seriously injured." Tomkins declined to comment on the substance of the allegations against his client.

Bird was reportedly taken to the Monroe County Jail after being arrested on campus. Bird was reportedly arrested in 2011 for underage drinking and disorderly conduct.

In 2003, Larry Bird, the famed and retired NBA star, assumed the role of president of basketball operations for the Pacers, and he held that position until 2012. He is the only person in NBA history to be named Most Valuable Player, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
