Amanda Knox Interview: Former Jailed Student Talks to ABC's Diane Sawyer in April

By

Amanda Knox, who was held in Italian jail for the stabbing death of her British roommate, will speak with ABC News' Diane Sawyer in a primetime special on April 30, according to news reports.

Knox, 25, spent her junior year abroad when she became embroiled - and became the prime suspect- of a murder mystery. She was first convicted of the murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher in 2009. The victim was found in the apartment she shared with her Italian boyfriend and Knox with more than 40 wounds and a deep gash in her throat in 2007, according to police reports.

The Italian cops quickly moved in to convict Knox, and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito in what was described as a drug-fueled sexual assault. At the time, Sollecito maintained the couple's innocence, but acknowledged that the couple's sometimes bizarre behavior after her roommate's death gave police reason for suspicion.

Prosecutors alleged that Knox's motives behind the killing were a satanic ritual, a sex game gone wrong, and even a disagreement over chores. After spending two years in an Italian jail, and convicted, Knox was eventually cleared of the charges in a 2011 appeal, after it was revealed that the police's scientific evidence against proved unreliable

The murder and associated trials resulted in worldwide media coverage, especially in Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. Several observers argued that the pre-trial publicity and tabloid-style coverage tainted the public perception of Knox and might have prejudiced the court cases.

Her interview with Sawyer is set to coincide with her forthcoming book, "Waiting to Be Heard: A Memoir," set for release on April 30. Knox reportedly was paid $4 million by Harper Collins.
