Police have ruled out foul play in the death of performer Jackie Kastrinelis, a cruise ship singer who was found dead in her cabin, ABC reported. Kastrinelis' death occurred while on board the Regent Seven Seas Voyager when the ship docked in Australia on Sunday.
"Everyone's completely shocked," said Ben Wilcox, a friend who attended the University of Hartford with Kastrinelis, told "Good Morning America." "She was energetic, bubbly and friendly."
Kastrinelis' cabin on the ship soon became a crime scene immediately after the discovery.
"The woman was a staff member on a cruise ship which is currently moored in Darwin Harbor," Commander Richard Bryson of the Crime and Specialist Support Command. "A crime scene was established as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue."
Investigators are focusing on a head injury she sustained during a rehearsal last Saturday, according to Cruise Law News. After the injury sustained, she was apparently treated with medication by a ship doctor before going to bed. The cruise line expressed its condolences to Kastrinelis' family.
"The Regent Seven Seas Cruises' family is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Jackie," the Miami-based luxury cruise line said in a statement. "Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones."
Kastrinelis started working as a performer on cruise ships in 2011, a year after graduating from University of Hartford.
