An overnight shooting in a park structure outside a Las Vegas Strip movie theater left two people critically wounded, and one person with a minor injury, police said on Wednesday.
According to The Associated Press, the shooter or shooters have not yet been identified. Police have also indicated that the initial reports that the shooting happened in the theater lobby were incorrect.
"The theater had nothing to do with it," Officer Laura Meltzer told the AP. "They were not coming from a movie. It was not in the theater lobby."
One thing that has been substantiated: two people suffered life-threatening injuries when the shooting occurred just after midnight on Wednesday morning in the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
Investigators say they believe the shooting was instigated by an ongoing conflict between members of two groups, which led to a nasty showdown at the park structure near an UA Showcase 8 theater.
When police arrived at the scene, they saw one seriously wounded person in the parking structure lobby and another in an elevator car on the fifth floor of the six-story parking structure. Both were reported to be in critical condition, and are being treated at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Their names were not made public. A third victim was found near the street near an elevator lobby. He treated at the scene for an injury not believed to be life threatening. The wounded were described as male, but ages were not yet known.
The Associated Press said that police are still trying to determine the relationship between the two conflict between members of the two groups involved in the shooting.
According to movie show times, the last features of the night let out shortly before the shooting was reported. Officer Meltzer said she did not know if anyone inside the theater heard or knew about the shooting outside.
Police have also said the shooting was likely not a random act.
