Backstreet Boys Member Facing a Misdemeanor Battery Charge

By

Nick Carter from the famous Backstreet Boys group has been arrested Wednesday evening. The 35-year-old singer was arrested after being involved in a brawl outside a bar in Florida. According to a report from the Key West Police Department, Carter had too much to drink as he faced police officers.

Based on interviews, the bartender of Hog's Breath Saloon refused to serve Carter and his companion, Michael Rae Papayans. This led to them becoming aggressive and agitated. On numerous occasions, the staff of the bar asked the men to leave. When they were outside, 27-year-old Papayans head-butted an employee of the bar while Carter grabbed the throat of a bouncer.

The incident was recorded on a surveillance video posted by the City of Key West, shows how the singer behaved. Security personnel from the bar quickly restrained the two men until police officers arrived at the scene. Based on the report of the police, Carter was slurring his words and was visibly intoxicated.

When he was arrested, Carter can be heard in the video telling the police that he was Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys band and that he was a "fucking singer." Carter also insisted that all he really wanted to do was just have some drinks, grab the microphone and sing. But as evident on the surveillance video, Carter had assaulted the bouncer. The police officer reminded this to the singer to see if he would apologize to the victim but failed to do so.

On Thursday afternoon, Carter made his initial court appearance. Several hours later, he was freed from the Monroe County jail and paid a bail of $1,500. He is currently facing a misdemeanor battery charge along with Papayans. Jail records don't indicate whether an attorney showed up for either of the two.

As of this writing, Carter's rep has not yet commented on this issue.
