An Atlanta security guard who tasered an unruly mother at an Atlanta mall has gone viral. Darrien Long also gave an interview to WSB-TV in Atlanta explaining his actions. Long was interviewed while wearing his security outfit, equipped with a pistol, bulletproof vest, taser and video camera. The encounter with the unruly mother ended with her being tasered in front of her kids when she became rowdy outside an Atlanta shopping mall.
The circumstances leading to the tasing were unknown, other than her persistent disobeying of the guard's order to leave the malls premise. She even went to attack him. As the video demonstrated, she was both hostile and abusive, and Long was reportedly given little choice but to use his taser, as a means to sedate her. A taser is an electroshock weapon line, using electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles. Someone struck by a taser experiences stimulation of sensory and motor nerves, resulting in strong involuntary muscle contractions.
The clip quickly went viral on Reddit, racking up over 1 million hits. Users, who witnessed the video online, have even raised $14,000 for Mr. Long, described as a 'real life Dark Knight,' according to some of his donors. He intends to buy himself some more protective equipment.
'I feel like the taser and the camera are the two most effective tools that I have,' Long told Atlanta news station WSB-TV. "'Do what you're supposed to do or you get what's coming to you.'
The woman in the video was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and simple battery.
