Man With Four DWI Offenses Gets Six Years Prison Term

By

58-year old J. Guadalupe Pina-Sanchez was recently sentenced to a six-year prison term. Pina-Sanchez received the verdict by the 361st District Court in Bryan on Monday after he pleaded guilty to the charge filed against him. The man was arrested back in August 18, 2012 when he crashed into a vehicle after he ignored a stop sign. The accident occurred at South Bryan and Beck Street. Thankfully, no one was injured during the accident.

When police arrested Pina-Sanchez, he had admitted to drinking a total of 20 beers. According to police reports, he was unsteady on his feet and even refused to proceed with a field sobriety test. Despite this, Pina-Sanchez had already exhibited signs of intoxication during the first part of the test.

Later on, police officials were able to obtain a blood test from the man. Based on test results, the man's blood alcohol level was at .256, a number which was considered over three times more than the legal limit. After looking into his record, police discovered that this was actually Pina-Sanchez's fourth time to be caught drunk driving. Compared with those who had their first DWI offense, Pina-Sanchez deserved a significant prison sentence; especially since he was a repeat DWI offender.

Despite his previous arrests, Pina-Sanchez continued his drinking behavior and still proceeded to driving while he was intoxicated. For Brazos County Assistant District Attorney R. Clay Kimbrough, this action deserved a lengthier prison sentence so Pina-Sanchez could no longer be a danger to those around him.

While the incident happened in 2012, the delay in the case was a result of Pina-Sanchez jumping bond. Now that a decision has been made by the court, Pina-Sanchez can finally start serving prison time he needs to do for his irresponsible behavior; given his age.
