The body of the U.K. teen who has been missing since October was recently found. Five people who are allegedly involved in the case were arrested by the police and are expected to be charged soon.
According to reports, an accomplice of two of the five people who beat the British national, identified as Dominic Bernard, led officials to where the belongings of the teenager has been buried. Officials were able to recover the victim's camera, tripod, monitor, and other components at an area in Nurney, Corentyne, Barbados Today reported.
As per Caribbean 360, the two prime suspects in the killing of 18-year-old Bernard are his god brother, Aaron Hing, 22, and Staymon George, 23. They were arrested after the decomposed body was found last Friday in a shallow grave in Berbice.
Bernard flew to the country on October 14. A manhunt was then launched following his failure to board his return flight to Britain set on November 5 of last year.
Accordingly, Hing was supposed to stay with Bernard for the duration of his trip and as per investigation, he, together with the other accomplices, picked the victim up from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
After that, they reportedly took him to a Sheriff Street restaurant where they dined and drank beer. The group then told Bernard that they were to show him something at the area where his grave was dug. Bernard was digging with the belief that something was burried on the said location before he was attacked.
The suspects admitted that they plotted the murder of Bernard as they dug his grave two days before he landed in Guyana. As per a postmortem, it was found out that the victim was struck at the back of his head and has obtained a fractured skull and a broken neck. It was also reported that he had a sock stuck on his mouth.
The group took money from the murdered teenager's bag as well as his other equipments. Accordingly, the killers went on a "spending spree" and even bought a motorcycle.
Standard reported that the parents of Bernard released a statement regarding the latest development in the case of their son.
A part of the statement reads: "Although no formal identification has taken place, in the last few hours we have learnt that Stayman George and Aaron Hing have confessed to the murder of our son Dominic. We are devastated. Dominic was full of hope, ambition, creativity, self-respect, faith and trust. He was very much loved by all his family, as well as a wide circle of friends. He was a talented film-maker and we are in no doubt that he had a bright and successful future ahead of him."
His parents noted that their son travelled to Guyana last year to pursue his dream of studying film-making. The teenager was an accomplished photographer, editor, and director in his country.
As of this writing, the investigation of Dominic Bernard's murder case is still ongoing.
