Ann Curry, the Today Show host, is pleading NBC network to let her out of her two-year contract so that she could accept an offer by CNN to fill Anderson Cooper's place as anchor in a news show.
Curry was recently released from her position as NBC's Today Show co-anchor with Matt Lauer. In fact, according to sources, Curry and her attorneys are arguing that the demotion from the show can be seen as a breach of contract on behalf of the network.
A source told RadarOnline, "'Ann's lawyer feels that there is a very strong case to be made that NBC has breached terms of the deal because Curry was demoted from Today... Furthermore, Ann has basically been sequestered from appearing on the network. Yes, she has been doing some work that has been assigned to her, but it hasn't been steady.'
It all started when Jeff Zucker offered Curry Cooper's position in the 8:00 pm News Show for CNN. Zucker and Curry already have an established professional history together, when he ran NBC's Today Show with the 56-year-old. Now as Zucker embarks to become president of CNN Worldwide, he wants his top journalist to report for the network. According to the New York Post, if Curry replaces Cooper on the show, Cooper will be able to take on CNN foreign correspondent Christian Amanpour's role.
However, whether or not Curry will be able to legally accept the offer depends on whether NBC frees her from her contract.
According to source who told The Daily mail, "Ann wants out of her contract, big time...She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network...If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years,' the insider said.
Curry was replaced by Savannah Guthrie in June 2012. Recently, she appeared on NBCs Dateline special coverage and also did a special report on the Colorado movie theater massacre as well as the 2012 London Olympics for the Today Show
