Silvio Berlusconi, Former Italian Prime Minister, Pays ex-Wife Veronica Lario $48 Million Per Year in Alimony According to Divorce Settlement?

The former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi reportedly agreed to pay his ex-wife Veronica Lario four million dollars per month in alimony as per terms of the divorce settlement. The amount adds up to $48 million per year.

Berlusconi will, however, keep all estates acquired by the couple.

According to the Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, "Veronica Lario will receive €3 million every month while Silvio Berlusconi is to hold onto the Macherio residence, valued at €78 million. However, both have agreed not to seek the attribution of fault."

Lario announced that she was divorcing the three-time Italian Prime-Minister shortly after he was spotted at the 18th birthday of a Naples girl. Lario said that the 76-year-old had a fondness for younger women. She also delivered an interview to another Italian newspaper in 2007, saying she was filing for divorce to save her "dignity as a woman," as reported by the same Italian newspaper.

Corriere della Sera says the court's decision comes in accordance to the Italian law detailed in Article 156 of the civil code which states in case of an economic difference between spouses filing for divorce, and then the court should award an amount to ensure the same standard of living of each person as existed during the time of cohabitation.

Lario and Berlusconi were married in 1990 and have three children together. Berlusconi is currently dating a woman in her late 20s, nearly 50 years younger than him. He served three times as Italian prime minister: 1994-1995, 2001-2006 and 2008-2011.
