The East Coast has yet to recover from the damages of hurricane Sandy, but now people from the region find themselves bracing for yet another big snowstorm, which claimed the lives of three people down south.
According to weather forecasters say that the storm which started with twisters in the South (Louisiana and Alabama et al) and then made its way from the Gulf Coast to New England, where the loss of three people's lives has been attributed to the storm and several other injuries.
The storm continued through Arkansas, where as many as 189,000 people have lost power just a day after Christmas.
Now the storm moves towards New York, weather forecasters have said that the storm bearing winds have already crossed the Ohio river and made its way to parts of New York and Maine.
The National Weather Service has released a warning of high winds, as strong as 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph to be expected after 4:00pm on Wednesday, Dec 26, in regions including Bronx; Brooklyn; Manhattan; Northeast Suffolk; Northern Nassau; Northern Queens; Northwest Suffolk; Richmond (Staten Is.); Southeast Suffolk; Southern Nassau; Southern Queens; Southern Westchester; Southwest Suffolk.
Major airports such as John F. Kennedy and Laguardia have already reported a number of flight delays and cancellations due to the weather conditions.
The National Weather Service also issued a cautionary message indicating, "winds of this magnitude will likely down trees and tree limbs, power lines and holiday decorations, and cause minor property damage. Power outages are possible. Driving high profile vehicles will be difficult, especially on elevated roadways and bridges."
