Samsung Electronics Co Ltd v Apple Inc: Samsung appealing to Court over patent disputes; Apple asking too much compensation?

By

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Apple Inc. are the two leading brands when it comes to smartphones which are in trend today. It is no wonder that competition between the two companies is existing. Apparently, feud between Samsung and Apple have already reached the U.S Supreme Court. As Apple have filed a case against the South Korean-brand electronics company because of patents disputes.

Seemingly, according to Deal Street Asia, Apple have won the case filed against Samsung in 2014 wherein Samsung have paid Apple nearly $120 million. The case was about the infringement of three patents of iPhones: the slide-to-unlock feature, auto-correct and quick links features. However, Samsung requests the U.S appeals court to look over the decision of jury in 2014. Samsung believes that the jury should not have made them pay Apple that big amount of money.

Aside from this case, there is another lawsuit that Samsung is facing against Apple. Based on the report of Business Insider, Samsung is being asked to pay Apple more than $548 million because of infringement of patents and designs of iPhone. But Samsung is not giving up against this lawsuit. The South Korean-brand electronics company is asking the Supreme Court to review the case.

However, in a recent report by Stock News Wire, it seems that Apple have won the case yet again against their competitor. The website states that Samsung has paid Apple the amount of more than $548 million. Now, it seems like Apple is asking for more. They are asking for an additional payment for "supplemental damages and interest" which is nearly $180 million again.

The battle between Samsung and Apple will still be long. As both companies are trying to assert their right among their products. But it seems like, the odds are in the favor of Apple as they consistently win the case against Samsung. However, Samsung is still doing its best to appeal to the high court over the case and dismiss the company from compensating Apple with big amounts of money.
