‘Attack on Titan’ game updates & release date: Devs reveal character, story and gameplay details of upcoming PlayStation-exclusive title

Developer Omega Force and publisher Koei Tecmo have been slowly unveiling the various details about the video game adaptation of the "Attack on Titan" manga series. Recently, the producer and director of the game discussed what gamers can expect to see in the upcoming PlayStation exclusive.

According to producer HisashiKoinuma and Tomoyuki Kitamura, the director of the game, "Attack on Titan" will feature a total of 10 playable characters. These include Armin, Krista, Sasha, Eren, Conny, Levi, Hange, Jean and Erwin. But aside from them, the game will also feature other non-playable characters based on the original material, Gematsu reported.

The two noted that aside from playing important roles in the series, these characters were specifically chosen because of their distinct contributions to the manga's overall storyline. Koinuma also explained that although the game is still based on the narrative of the television, film and manga versions of "Attack on Titan," it will take on a fresh perspective regarding the conflict between the humans and the monstrous titans.

Specifically, the producer said the game's plot will not be restricted to that of the original series. Instead, gamers will have the chance to expand the game's story depending on the characters they will choose to play as.

"Think of it as an action game set in the 'Attack on Titan' world where players can move about freely," Koinuma said during an interview with Famitsu, a gaming magazine based in Japan, as translated by Tech Times.

"It won't be something where you simply defeat an enemy to progress the story, but rather the base is an action game and within that you can understand the original story," he added.

Aside from the character-driven plot, VG247 noted that the game will also feature a new storyline drafted by Hajime Isayama, the creator of the "Attack on Titan" manga series. Although details about the new material are still unclear, the site mentioned that the entire game is based on the first season of the anime.

Japanese gamers will be the first ones who will get the chance to play the game once it officially debuts in their country on Feb 18, 2016. The game's U.S. version, on the other hand, is expected to come out before the year ends. It will only be available for the PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles
