'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' Reboot Update: Official Cast Finalized; Main Characters Revealed

By

The new upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie reboot now has an official cast and the main characters will still be named Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy, and Trini.

According to Youth Health Mag, English actress and singer Naomi Scott will play Pink Ranger, Kimberly Hart. Australian actor Dacre Montgomery will play Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott. Chinese actor Ludi Lin will play Black Ranger, Zachary (Zack) Taylor. "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" actor RJ Cyler will play Blue Ranger, Billy Cranston. YouTube star Becky G, or Becky Gomez will play Yellow Ranger, Trini Kwan.

The Korea Portal wrote that the new movie will be directed by Dean Israelite. He said, "I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way,"

The creator or the original series, Haim Saban, will be the producer of the film, along with Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur. The screenplay will be written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller.

Concept arts were shown in certain websites showing the rangers inside a Megazord, according to Vine Report. Another concept art was an image of Zordon, which is far from the human-faced character in the original series. Alpha, the assistant robot is shown as a futuristic and highly advanced robot. The Alpha in the concept art looked more like a cyborg or an android, than a humorous robot.

The new movie will be filmed in Vancouver, beginning in January 2016. It is expected to be released in 2017. This will be the third time a Power Ranger movie will be shown in the big screen. The first was the "Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: The Movie" in 1995 and the "Turbo: A Power Ranger Movie," which was shown in 1997.
