New gun control measures have been implanted by USA president Barack Obama, which he believes will potentially 'save lives.' Last Monday, the White House unveiled that new and stricter measures are to be taken amongst gun sellers, and gun buyers in order to lessen the numerous and recent shootings that have been devastating America.
According to a report from Reuters, The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives now requires stricter licenses and background checks to be carried through before one can buy or sell a gun. The report continues to explain how those that sell guns at stores, online, and at gun shows will have to be licensed and have undergone thorough checks. The same goes for those purchasing the weapons as the ATF are finalizing a rule which requires a severe background check is carried through before one may purchase.
The Guardian reported how Obama tweeted a series of tweets on the subject on his personal twitter account, where he stated 'We can't accept this carnage in our communities.' Former New York Mayor, Michael Bloomerg who is also co-founder of 'Everytown for Gun Safety happily stated after the announcement' said, "President Obama's decision to clarify and enforce the law requiring more gun sellers to conduct background checks is an important victory for public safety and a setback for criminals and gun traffickers,"
Another report from the New York Daily News reported how Obama stated that though the new laws and stricter rules may not prevent every mass shooting, it can still potentially save lives, and bare families the pain of loss' which is experienced when a loved one is lost due to gun violence.
Though little information was given out to reporters on the exact measures to be taken, various other steps were mentioned, and will later on be discussed in depth, which will be included in the overall plan to stop guns getting into the hands of the wrong people.
