Wyoming police say that James Krumm, a computer science instructor at the Wyoming community college, saved a bunch of students by fending them off, after being shot by his son Christopher Krumm in front of the class.
Christopher, a 26-year-old student, first shot his father's girlfriend at their home in Casper, Wyoming. After which he went to his father's class at the university and shot him with a bow and arrow.
Casper police chief, Chris Walsh told the Associated Press, "I can tell you the courage that was demonstrated by Mr. Krumm was absolutely without equal."
According to police reports, the 56-year-old, " may have saved some of his students' lives Friday by giving them time to flee while trying to fend off his son," as reported by the Associated Press.
After shooting his father with a compound type bow and arrow, the younger Krumm stabbed himself. Police found the older Krumm dead and the shooter critically injured.
According to reports, the 26-year-old drove from Vernon, Conneticut to Casper, Wyoming on Friday. He then stabbed Krumm's live-in-girlfriend Heidi Arnold, who was also a professor at the same college. She was 42 years old. Arnold was stabbed to death, her body was found close to her house.
Police at Vernon have issued a search warrant for his apartment on Saturday. Police do not have a clear motive for the murders. When asked about the father-son relation, Chief Walsh said, "It's difficult to say. I don't think it was very close," as reported by AP.
The college plans to conduct a vigil for the tragedy Tuesday.
