The makers of the popular smartphone Galaxy S3 is now facing another lawsuit from a competitor, but this time it's not Apple, but Ericsson. Ericsson claims that the South Korean company did not renew its license for using certain patented features and therefore must be penalized for patent infringement.
According to Daily Mail UK, "The whole technology industry is built on the fact that patents can be used by rivals under 'fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory' - or Frand - licensing terms."
This is just another patent related case Samsung is facing. The other major case is with its arch nemesis Apple, which recently requested the Galaxy S3 to be added to the injunction.
A judge allowed Apple to include the Galaxy SIII to the patent infringement suit, the South Korean company did lag behind in procuring permission to add the iPhone 5 to its patent claims against the Cupertino company as well.
California court judge, Paul S. Grewal said, "Given the early stage of this litigation and the reasoning of this order, the court notes that Apple should think twice before opposing similar amendments reflecting other newly-released products -- e.g. the iPad 4 and iPad mini -- that Samsung may propose in the near future," as reported by Infoworld.
On Thursday, Apple's request to add Samsung's Galaxy SIII, Note 10.1 and Android Jelly Bean OS to the list of devices in the patent infringement case against the South Korean company.
