EA Digital Illusions CE or DICE has confirmed that it will not release a content update directly based on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" for its "Star Wars Battlefront" game. According to the studio, the development team of the shooter title is only focused on launching updates based on the first "Star Wars" films that came out from 1977 to 1983.
As reported by IGN, DICE made the revelation regarding the fate of its game through its Twitter account. In response to a question sent by a gamer, the studio said that the public should not expect to see a DLC inspired by the seventh episode in the saga.
Probably the closest thing that gamers can see to a "Force Awakens" DLC is the "Battle of Jakku" since the setting of this update is featured heavily in the film. But, IGN pointed out that this detail still coincides with DICE's statements regarding its dedication to the original trilogy for the game.
After all, the major event in the DLC, which is the clash between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, took place a year after "Return of the Jedi" or about 29 years before "The Force Awakens. Following this timeline, it seems the "Battle of Jakku" can still be considered as part of the franchise's original narrative.
But even with the absence of a DLC based on the recently released film, fans of "Star Wars Battlefront" can still expect more content updates for the game in the future. According to Movie Pilot, DICE has promised to release new DLC featuring four new heroes and villains for the game.
Although the company did not give out the exact details regarding the contents of the upcoming DLCs, the news site speculated that these could feature several fan-favorites and familiar faces from the film series. These characters could be Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Jabba the Hut and even Grand Moff Tarkin, the commander of the Death Star and the right-hand man of Darth Vader in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope."
"Star Wars Battlefront" first came out in November 17. It is currently available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows platforms.
