EA Sports UFC 2 characters, gameplay & release date: Ex-WWE superstar CM Punk confirmed to join game’s roster

By

Electronic Arts has confirmed that Philip Brooks, better known as the professional wrestler CM Punk, will appear as a playable character in the upcoming EA Sports UFC 2 game. Although some fans are excited to play as their favorite wrestler, some are skeptical about his debut in the digital UFC Octagon.

According to Gamezone, Punk used to be the champion of WWE. He defended his title for a total of 434 days, making him the longest title-holder in the history of the professional wrestling entertainment company.

Immediately after news of the former WWE superstar's appearance in the upcoming game came out, fans took to Twitter to express their opinions about the matter. Some were ecstatic to see the wrestler in the roster while others questioned EA's decision to include him in UFC 2. After all, despite signing a deal with the UFC, a debut match for Punk is still yet to be arranged.

As reported by Sports Illustrated, Punk joined the mixed martial arts promotion company in December of last year after leaving WWE. Although it's already been a year since he became part of the UFC's fighter pool, no details have been made regarding his first fight in the Octagon. The athlete's trainer, Duke Roufus of Roufusport Martial Arts Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, said in October of this year that Punk's opponent for his debut match will probably be unveiled in 10 months.

As for EA Sports UFC 2, the upcoming entry in the MMA-themed video game series is scheduled to come out in spring of 2016. Like the first game, the sequel will probably come out for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

According to MMA News, the upcoming game will feature a new combat system. Instead of relying on the rotations of joysticks like in the first title, the sequel will only require gamers to push the controller in a single direction to fill up a skill bar in order to execute special maneuvers.

In addition, the game's grappling mechanics will no longer be turn-based. Instead, players participating in matches will be able to independently carry out grappling moves.
