German Beer Purity Law Stays Irrelevant for Today’s Younger Drinkers, Research Reveals

Laws are drafted, sanctioned and approved to aid the society in dealing with their daily lives in accordance with the law. However, as for the German Beer Purity Law, it remains insignificant for today's younger drinkers.

Research recently conducted revealed how Germany's beer purity law is trailing behind in its relevance among young Germans as the attractiveness of imported beers heightens. A report by Food Bev Media indicated that there is more than 60 percent of the over-60 demographic which relayed that the Reinheitsgebot, the process to determine the ingredients that can be used in the beer making process in Germany, that confirmed of its importance.

On the other hand, there are also 25 percent of those aged 30 or younger agreed it's not important at all. K&A BrandResearch, which carried out the study in collaboration with Respondi, squabbled how the beer purity law's importance was diminishing every year, as further stated by the same post.

Looking at the past, the history making process of beer for Germany has always been vital and significant. Even Alumni Portal mentioned that the German beer has been brewed in harmony with the purity law more than 500 years, and using the four ingredients prescribed in this law, German brewers have fashioned a diversity of beers that remains unrivalled all throughout the world even today.

Meanwhile, despite the strong history and relevance of the purity law, the younger generation and drinkers are changing their perspective as more and more international and foreign beers enters the German beer market.

In addition, a symbol of Germany's connection with beer shows how deep its importance really is. One illustration is to envision pictures of Oktoberfest, where waitresses wearing the traditional dirndl when serving high-quality beer in steins mentioned by Wharton.

The dying influence of the purity law is not yet to worry for now since Germany has always inextricably connected with beer and its significant history would never diminish. But with the changing of trends in brewery and younger generation's preferences, German beer purity might not be applicable sooner or later.
