Central American nations and Cuban migrants have reached an agreement

Central American nations and several thousands of stranded Cubans have now reached an agreement. The Cuban migrants are to continue their journey north toward the United States, and this will take place next month.

Costa Rica's Foreign Ministry says that humanitarian transfer will airlift a great number of Cubans on the first week of January. The airlift will start from Costa Rica to El Salvador, and then they will continue by bus going to Mexico.

This move from the Guatemalan government, which accommodated a diplomatic meeting to consider such circumstance, described it as a 'pilot' program. The mentioned government said that a work group has already been tasked with coordination logistics.

However, the governments which are involved regarding this issue did not release further details. In fact, it has also been reported that some nations wanted discretion on what has become a diplomatic flashpoint between Costa Rica and neighboring Nicaragua.

It has been said that the numbers has reached at least 8,000 Cubans who were stranded in Costa Rica since Nicaragua closed its border to them weeks ago. The stranded islanders are trying their best to communicate with the United States. They have found out that migratory policies towards Cubans are more feasible and favorable. This means that nearly all of them are allowed to apply for residency and stay.

Meanwhile, Pope Francis called for their issue to be resolved at the soonest time possible. He is inviting the countries of the region to renew with generosity all necessary efforts in order to find a rapid solution to this humanitarian drama. The pope made his remarks on Sunday at a crown in St. Peter's Square.

Cubans and Central American nations are now a step away in resolving this issue once and for all. People all over the world are having their fingers crossed, as mothers and children are affected with this unfortunate circumstance.
