Ted Cruz loved by Republicans in Iowa while being loathed in D.C.

GOP Presidential Candidate Senator Ted Cruz is getting more favorable views from Republicans in Iowa based on a recent survey. It is also the said state that Cruz has visited more than any other place.

However, this is not the case in Washington, D.C. as he is most disliked among his senatorial colleagues. According to The Wall Street Journal, he has been called names such as 'jackass,' 'wacko bird' and 'false prophet,' which the Republicans themselves have made up.

One thing that was said to be the reason why Republicans from D.C. loathe Cruz is that they find it disgusting how he puts his own interests over GOP. They simply do not want him to be the leader of their party. However, looking at his views, he does not actually disagree with the rest of the party. In fact, he even agrees with the party's major policy questions. This includes making abortion illegal, liking tax cuts, repealing Obamacare, and curbing environmental regulations, Vox stated.

There should be no problem if he does lead their party, since the party's interests are also in line with his own interests. Moreover, this totally paradoxical setup he has in Iowa and Washington may just be vital to his campaign strategy. Dubbed as the bad boy of the Senate, Cruz enjoys this kind of reputation after dragging his party into a budget fight. He had also rebelled against party leaders since 2013 after arriving on Capitol Hill.

In addition, a known publication quickly ranted that 'Cruz cannot win because the Washington elites despise him' during the launching of his campaign. But the senator stated that he thought 'it was the whole point of the campaign.'

Right now, Cruz is rising both in state and national polls. He just topped the raking in Iowa, which makes him the target of scrutiny and examination. But Hindustan Times reported that if there's one person who knows that Cruz is a brilliant leader, it would be his Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz.

"Without a doubt he is among the smartest students I've ever had... I've had great students but he has to be at the top of anyone's short list, in terms of raw brain power," Dershowitz spoke of Cruz.

Would the 44-year old senator be able to use both his good and bad publicity to beat other presidential candidates? The US may just have to find out soon.
