The Queen of Pop Madonna stands by his former husband Sean Penn's side following a defamatory accusation involving the latter. The singer denies allegations that she was a victim of domestic abuse during her marriage with Penn.
The Oscar award-winning actor's name was brought up in a recent case where Empire director Lee Daniels tried to defend Terrence Howard who was apparently accused of beating up his wife by using him as an example.
"That poor boy [Terrence] ain't done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he's some f-ing demon. That's a sign of the time, of race, of where we are right now in America," states Daniels causing Penn to file a lawsuit against him for using his name in a defamatory manner.
To support his claim, Penn called for his now ex-wife's help to clear his name. Madonna then made a statement that bears, "While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, 'tied me up,' or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false."
Additionally, the 57-year-old performer also wrote in her Instagram account that, "A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good just because it's accepted by the majority" in support for Penn.
While the "Material Girl" singer and Penn were married for only four years since 1985, the former wife recently revealed in her concert in Barclays Center for her Rebel Heart Tour that Penn finally acknowledged her art as a performer.
"I did a show at Madison Square Garden the other night, you may have heard about it, and my ex-husband was there! Could you imagine?"
She reveals that this is his second time watching her after three decades telling the fans, "He had been at my show 30 years earlier when I played Madison Square Garden, and he was very upset with me for wearing a costume that was too revealing. That's not a lie!"
"Anyway, after the show he wrote me a letter and said he finally appreciated my art. And that is what I have to say about marriage, OK? Thirty f*cking years later," Madonna expresses in her speech about his former husband.
The "Like a Virgin" singer was rumored to have been hospitalized in 1987 after Sean Penn allegedly hit her with a baseball bat. However both of them denied such claims and stayed friends after their divorce in 1989. Madonna even met his daughter from the actor's other ex-wife backstage during her Madison Square Garden concert.
