President Barrack Obama visited the Red Cross and thanked the organization for its service during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which hit the East Coast over the weekend.

President Obama said, "we want to thank them (Red Cross) for their outstanding work," as reported by NBC News.

Of the storm Obama says "this storm is not yet over," warning the public to "monitor the conditions in your local community."

The president went to talk about "the extraordinary hardships we've seen over the last 48 hours, our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families who've lost loved ones...obviously this is something heart-breaking for the entire nation...the most important message I have for them (people affected by the storm) is that America is with you, we're standing behind you and we're going to do everything we can to help you get back on your feet," as reported by NBC News.

He went on to praise Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York, Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey and Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City calling their work in dealing with the crisis "outstanding."

According to a poll by The New Civil Rights Movement, 78 percent of likely voters think Obama is doing a good job handling this natural crisis, while 8 percent say that he is doing a bad job.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has urged the Red Cross to bend its rules on receiving private donations that do not fit certain criteria. The Romney campaign released a statement saying, "Unfortunately, due to logistical constraints the Red Cross does not accept or solicit individual donations or collections of items. Items such as collected food, used clothing and shoes must be sorted, cleaned, repackaged and transported which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel," as reported by The Civil Rights Movement.

Hurricane Sandy has devastated many regions on the East Coast. The storm, which has been called the greatest storm on the East Coast, has caused power black outs in many areas, destroyed homes and lives as well as completely debilitated the New York City transit system.
