The Florida Supreme Court needs to further review related topics and studies regarding solar power. On Monday, the office ordered legal briefs to be reviewed about the current proposed solar power constitutional amendment. In accordance, Consumers for Smart Solar is sponsoring the said amendment entitled Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice.
In the said order, the Florida Supreme Court requested for the legal briefs to be submitted on January 11, 2016 - a day before the 2016 Legislative Session will commence. Moreover, parties concerned can and will be allowed to respond to the given briefs by February 1, 2016. In line with this, the Supreme Court needs to approve a duly organized proposal language and ballot summary before the actual voting proper and thus needs to gather at least 683,149 signatures in the ballot - capturing 60% of the vote for it to be added to the state's present constitution.
As per the Division of Elections, the proposal in question currently has 475,143 signatures. Also, the competing amendment is being sponsored by Floridians for Solar Choice - an association working for progressive and conservative interest which tentatively issues into pursuing and exploring options for its 2018 campaign, according to Florida Politics.
Furthermore, Sunshine State News reports there are still several affairs involving the solar power amendment as various organizations pursue interest about the said legal briefing. Some disputes have also been circling around involving a payment discord with a signature-gathering firm and thus making it impossible to gather the required number of signatures before the February 1, 2016 deadline.
As the ongoing amendment process goes, it has 272,898 valid signatures as of Monday, December 21, 2015. There may be a lot of work to do still for the said amendment and various issues might happen and be involved especially when the deadline is drawing near. But, parties and organizations aiming for the amendment to be made possible is pushing through with their interest regarding all legalities for the upcoming briefing.
