If you're familiar with Bollywood, you know that Bollywood Super Star owes much of his success to Yash Chopra, one of the most revered figures in Indian cinema, who died this Sunday, October 21, at the age of 80. The huge international star Khan makes no pretense about it.
The relationship between the two is almost as iconic as their talents. An Indian entertainment website, apunkachoice.com says of the relationship, "It was a bond of genuine fondness between Chopra and Khan."
According to reports by Yahoo News, Khan not only attended the last rites of his favorite director, but also was in the ambulance when his body was being transported to Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai.
Khan, who after a series of flops was resuscitated to superstar status by Chopra's '93 hit Darr. After the film, Khan became a permanent part of the Chopra camp, starring in the "Chopra Productions" biggest hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, produced by Chopra and directed by his son Aditya Chopra in 1995. Such was the impact of the film, that after 17 years the film still plays in a Mumbai theatre.
Khan also starred in Chopra's blockbuster Dil Toh Pagal Hain and Veer Zara. He is starring in his latest movie, "Jab Tak Hain Jaan" along with Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.
On Monday, Khan took to Facebook and Twitter remarking on the death of Chopra as follows: "Whenever my loved ones depart...ı feel a part of me extinguishes itself with them. Will there come a day that I will no longer have a bit of myself to let go of? And then the thought follows...that every time they have taken some of me with them onto theır last journey , I have found a fragment of them left inside me too...I will always have some love to give and I will always be both emptied and replenished by the loved ones I lose. I keep u wıth me Yashjı and I mıss u too Yashjı...lots."
According to reports, the 80-year-old director/producer passed away in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital of dengue fever. He was diagnosed with dengue on October 13. A hospital source told the Times of India.
