Both sides pursue delay in latest Aaron Hernandez double murder trial

By

Prosecutors and lawyers of Aaron Hernandez have been pursuing to delay the trial of the Patriot's double murder case. The trial is currently slated for January 19 in Suffolk Superior Court.

According to Boston Herald, Hernandez has been accused of gunning down Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado after a chance encounter at a Boston nightclub. The trial is scheduled on January 19 but recently, both parties have filed a joint motion to delay the start of the trial, mentioning a pending appeal over evidence in the case.

Boston Globe reported that the joint motion of both parties did not elaborate on the evidence at issue or the law firm that possesses it. Bradley is charging Hernandez in federal court in Florida for injuries that he underwent during the February 2013 shooting. A civil trial is arranged for Feb. 23 in Miami.

A Suffolk Superior Court judge has not yet ruled on the appeal to suspend the double murder trial in Boston. Separately, Hernandez was put behind bars in April of first-degree murder in the June 2013 slaying of Odin L. Lloyd, a 27-year-old Dorchester man who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée. Now, he is serving a life sentence for that conviction but his lawyers are appealing.

Separately, guards have found a prison-made knife inside Hernandez' cell. This happened on December 1 during a shakedown. With this, he was reportedly moved out of general population and was relocated into the segregation unit that houses inmates thought to be a danger to others or in danger themselves as reported by The Oceanside Post.

Although both prosecutor and lawyers are attempting to delay the double murder case trial of Aaron Hernandez, the judge has not yet ruled his decision. Moreover, if the court does not favor their request, the trial will commence on January 19.
