Taryn Manning, the actress remembered for her role opposite rap-artists Eminem in "8 Mile," was charged with assault for beating and choking her assistant Holliann Hartman. She was released after spending more than 24-hours in jail.
Manning was arrested Thursday after she kicked, punched and choked her assistant at a New York City Downtown Dream Hotel on W. 16th St. She was released without bail after her arraignment hearing on Friday where she was charged with a single count misdemeanor for assault. She has been ordered to keep away from 23-year-old Hartman until the next court hearing.
Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Alexander Tish has set the next hearing for November 13.
Joe Tacopina, Manning's lawyer told the New York Daily, "They had a late-night argument that turned into a bit of a physical altercation... "If you know about Taryn, and her track record and her background, she's not a petulant little kid...She's a 33-year-old, serious, well-accomplished actress, artist who is here promoting her song on Vh1... She's part of the Manning family...She stays with the mother and Taryn in California."
According to the report released at the arraignment, Manning punched and choked her assistant, then kicked her and slammed her head to the floor. Police say that bruises were found on Hartman's body and head.
There are no details on what the argument was about, but Tacopina said that Hartman did not want to press charges against the 33-year-old actress.
Manning was travelling to New York to release a new music video.
Manning has acted in movies such as "8 Mile," "A lot like love," and "Jack and Jill vs. World," et al. In addition to her acting and singing career, Manning also co-owns a clothing brand called Born Unicorn.
