Stacey Dash, known for her role as the best friend of Alicia Silverstone in the hit 90s film Clueless, took to Twitter on the weekend to show her support for the Republican presidential nominee of 2012, Mitt Romney.
The 46-year-old actress Tweeted "Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future. @mittromney @teamromney #mittromney #VOTE #voteromney pic.twitter.com/9HFUhWul" as posted on her page @RealStaceyDash.
Her tweet garnered a lot of attention, most of it not very positive. The reason of this has a lot to with Dash's race. The Huffington Post says that her endorsement "brings race to the issue." Many angry followers took to Twitter saying:
"You're an unemployed black woman endorsing @MittRomney. You're voting against yourself thrice. You poor beautiful idiot," says Tretista Kelverian on his Twitter page @iLoveJoeyNoHomo. Another critic tweeted "Still Clueless" Dorianna Gray@blurbette. Jon Sun, another critic said, Stacey dash has lost her mind," on @Same_OL_Bee.
Mediatakeout.com really poked fun at the actress Tweet saying "SCHOCKER!!! Clueless Actress STACY DASH Comes Out As A ROMNEY SUPPORTER!!! (It Doesn't REALLY Surprise Us . . . She's Been Choosing WHITE DUDES For A MINUTE Now)
Dash was quick to respond to the various critical messages, retweeting "My humble opinion... EVERYONE is entitled to one," on her Twitter page.
Others think that the incident is being blown out of proportion. One person tweeted, "People overreacting because Stacey Dash said she's voting for Romney?" MisterFete @50shadesofblack. Another person said, "I don't see the big deal with Stacey Dash voting for Romney," Michael Scofield @ FriendZoneGod.
Dash started her career as an actress in the 1980s, landing roles in TV shows such as "The Cosby Show" and "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She is most noted for playing the role of Dionne Marie Davenport, the best friend of Alicia Silverstone in the blockbuster hit "Clueless," also starring Brittany Murphy. She is currently living in New York.
