The convicted pedophile, Jerry Sandusky, former assistant football coach of Penn State University, is less than 24 hours away from his sentencing on Tuesday. He was convicted on 45 out 48 counts of child sex-abuse and molestation in May and currently remains in custody at the in Centre County prison.
While legal analyst say that Sandusky could receive a sentence of over 400 years in prison, NBC's Wes Oliver says that he could receive as less as ten year in prison.
According to the article, among the 45 criminal counts, six have a minimum sentence of ten years, never the less if the judge lets him serve the 60 years concurrently, he could be serving much less.
The other charges, according to Oliver, do not have a mandatory period, therefore it is totally up to Judge John Cleland to make the decision.
Never the less, Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola believes his client will get life in prison and said that he has already prepared to file for appeal. Amendola told the Washington Post that his client is likely to be sentenced to life in prison. "Either he gets a new trial or he's in (prison) for the rest of his life," Amendola told USA Today.
In May, a jury of seven women and five men found the 68 year-old guilty of 45 out of the 48 counts against him for sexual abuse of ten young boys over a span of 15 years. He could face a sentence of 400 years with no parole or as less as ten years without parole.
In addition to receiving his prison term, Pennsylvania judge John Cleland will also decide whether Sandusky should be categorized as a violent sexual predator, a request made by state prosecutor. If the 68 year old receives the following classification, he will get a lifetime sentence in prison.
Sandusky and his legal team still maintain his innocence and claim that he was wrongfully convicted.
Amendola told the Washington Post that his client is likely to be sentenced to life in prison. "Either he gets a new trial or he's in (prison) for the rest of his life," Amendola told USA Today.
