The case of the alleged Dark Knight shooter has not yet gone to trial, this might be a strong indication that the event is still relatively fresh in the minds and hearts of America, so dressing up as James Egan Holmes this Halloween might not be appropriately. But apparently one person does not think so, the seller posted a picture of a mask that resembles the mug shot of Holmes with bright orange hair and widely opened dazed eyes. See the picture of mask here.
The discovery was first made by Fox News 13. According to the site, a first-time seller posted a picture of the mask on September 2, and auctioned it at a starting price of $500. The entire description of the mask has been described as follows:
"Halloween is only a month away. SHOCK EVERYONE YOU KNOW! He was referred to as "The Joker", "The Dark Knight Shooter," "The Ilama," "The Extraordinary Gifted" but his real name is JAMES HOLMES! There is nothing more scary than crawling into James Holmes mind and wearing his face. His "soul penetrating eyes" and "The Joker" orange hair makes this mask the most disturbing object you will ever own. Imagine owning the mask of supposedly the most dangerous mass murderer in US history. This is a high quality latex rubber mask which was custom designed for a private collector overseas. I won this mask playing high stakes poker tournament when I was in Europe. I guaranty you that this is the only mask in the world and it is practically priceless because it was used in the production of the most controversy documentary which will come out in 2013. This mask is sold as is and there are no returns. If you have 0 feedback and you are interested to bid on this item you have to contact me first. I will ship the mask immediately after I receive the payment. Good luck!"
Currently, the alleged shooter Holmes is being held in a detention facility of Arapahoe County in solitary confinement. Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney Carol Chambers told News Day that she is considering pursuing the death penalty, but only after consulting with the victims and their families.
On July 20, at a midnight screening of the cult-inducing Dark Knight Rises film at a movie house in Aurora, Colorado, Holmes, opened fire killing 12 people and injuring 59 others. He was arrested that morning and placed in custody.
Judge Sylvester has assigned the preliminary trial hearing to November 6.
