The Okaland Athletics pitcher Pat Neshek flew from Oakland to Florida after his team beat the Texas Rangers in a 4 to 3 playoff to witness the birth of his first child. His wife Stephanee gave birth to an 8llbs, 5 oz baby boy on October 2, however just after 23 hours baby Gehrig John Neshek died of an "unknown condition," according to the Daily Mail.

The baby died in the arms of his mother. He was named after the baseball legend, Lou Gehrig.

Neshek took to Twitter to replace a tweet, which initially read, "'It's a boy Gehrig John Neshek...8 lbs 5 oz, born 10/2/12. Pat flew Oakland to FL just in time for birth!" as posted on his Twitter page @PatNeshek, with a picture of his son and wife. The next tweet soon read, "Please pray for my family, tonight my wife & I lost our first & only son 23 hours after he was born with no explanation.'

Stephanee also took to her Twitter to express her sorrow over the loss of their newly born, "I am still in complete shock over the loss of our son, after he was on this earth for less than 24 hours. He was perfect in every way," according to her Twitter page @StephaneeNeshek. She went on to add "Loved him so much! I am at loss for words right now...he died peacefully sleeping in my arms unexpectedly without any explanation."

The A's released a statement on the tragedy saying, "Our hearts go out to Pat and Stephanee and we share in their sorrow of losing their young son...The entire A's organization will keep the Neshek family in our prayers and thoughts, as they try to come to grips with this tragic occurrence in their lives," as reported by the Associated Press.
