Hooters Sued for Racial Discrimination: Kisuk Cha Sues Over “Chinx” Receipt (View Receipt)

By

Kisuk Cha is suing a Fresh Meadow Hooters restaurant in Queens, New York for racial discrimination. The Korean-American said that after dining there with his girlfriend he got his receipt, which read "Chinx" on the top.

The 25-year-old told the New York Daily that "I was shocked. My girlfriend was shocked as well."

The international food chain, which describes itself as "delightfully tacky yet unrefined" accepts responsibility and says that the waitress responsible for the incident has resigned.

Hooters attorney Ed McCabe told the Huffington Post, "She (the employee who took responsibility for making the receipt) was told that it violated company policy. She resigned on the spot."

Daniel Baek, lawyer of Cha said "He was so overwhelmed that he just wanted to go to bed to sleep, but was too angry to do so. This incident has continued to cause him mental anguish. He is haunted by the ridiculing giggles and stares of his persecutor. He does not feel welcome at Hooters and indeed questions whether he is welcomed at any non-Korean establishments," as reported by the Huffington Post.

Cha and his girlfriend went to the restaurant on July 1 and said that they experienced "gawking" and "giggling" from their waitress from the very beginning.

The bill amounted to $12.17, but the lawsuit could cost Hooters much more. Although, the exact amount that Cha is suing for has not been disclosed, it is sure to exceed the cost of his meal. He is suing the company for emotional damages, discrimination and causing distress.
