Iran Says It Will Attack U.S. Base, President Ahmedinajad Attends U.N. Annual General Assembly

Iranian General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Head of the Revolutionary Guard's aerospace division told the Iranian state television that in an event of a war or violent conflict with Israel, in might be pushed to attack U.S. bases, since U.S. is bound to be an obvious ally and aid to Israel.

"For this reason, we will enter a confrontation with both parties and will definitely be at war with American bases should a warbreak out...There will be no neutral country in the region...To us, these bases are equal to U.S. soil," Hajizadeh told Al-Alam TV as reported by the Christian Monitor.

The U.S. current bases in Bahrain, Qatar and Afghanistan would be targeted according to the general.

Monday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinajad is attending the United Nations Annual General Assembly in New York. President Ahmedinajad said of Israel that the country had no historic relevance in the Middle East and said it should be "eliminated," as reported by New York Daily. The Israeli envoy walked out of the meeting.

Israeli diplomat, Ron Prosor told the NY Daily, "It is a shame and disgrace to give someone like him the opportunity to speak on such an important topic...The leader of an outlaw country that is a serial violator of the fundamental principles of the rule of law has no place in this hall."

President Ahmedinejad denied any truth to speculations on the country's nuclear weapons and in stead said that the nuclear program was being developed for energy purposes.

He said that if Israel were to attack Iran that "We are fully ready to defend ourselves..." but then added that " We do not take these threats seriously," as reported by the New York Times.

Ahmedinejad, 55 is serving his last term as the President of Iran and this will be his eight and last visit to the U.N. General Assembly as the country's executive leader.
