Singer and Actress Patti Labelle will pay Roseanna Monk and her 18-month old child, Genevieve Monk $100,000 in a lawsuit settlement for verbally and physically abusing the mother and child at a Manhattan apartment.
According to CNN News, the Grammy award winner was accused of shouting at the mother and her baby in the lobby of the Trump Place in the lower West side of Manhattan. Monk says that not only did the 68-year-old celebrity shout profanities at her and her child, but also physically assaulted them. The lawsuit claims that Labelle, started "yelling, screaming obscenities, throwing water and drenching with water, attempting to strike and physically injure" when she thought the child was left unattended.
The incident took place in November 2011 and the two parties finally reached a settlement on Wednesday. The case was initially scheduled to go to court this November, when Monk filed the suit in a New York Federal Court. However, after both parties agreed to reach an out-of-court settlement, judge John Koeltl dismissed the case.
Samuel Davis, Monk's lawyers told CNN News, "it "took a bunch of depositions before LaBelle recognized that she was going to have to face the music."
When asked about the specifics of the incident, Davis said, "LaBelle besieged them with such ferocity, before she doused them with water, that the baby was crying hysterically...LaBelle would not desist...The baby went from crying hysterically to vomiting," he continued, "She went from being the most outgoing, saying 'hi' to everybody in the lobby of her building, to being clingy and shy...Patti is a nice lady, but she has some anger issues," as reported by CNN News.
Monk will be donating the money to charity, as will Davis his attorney fees, which will also be paid by Labelle.
